so grateful for this and for the ease of installation - I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to use my printer anymore - wish they would give a disclaimer when with computer updates that we no longer can use our old printers - but thankful for your rescue for older - perfect printers. You saved another product going to the landfill.

Excellent. I expected to spent the very next two evenings searching the internet how to configure "Gutenprint". In fact it was just an issue of minutes. Finnaly I hadn't to configure anything. Just select the already detected canon printer iP4300. Then print a test page and all was fine. There were other times, when it costs me a lot headaches to simply print a test page under Linux. Ok. I have to admit this canon printer is a really old one. Maybe with newer printer hardware is it not so easy going.
